Sometimes people install fans without a switch as was the case with this situation. The problem was that they did not run a switch to control the fan which makes the fan box hot all the time. The only way to make this installation functional is to get a fan with a remote control which will operate the fan. The difficulty comes when the remote gets lost or breaks and your fan is stuck on high! The solution would be to install a switch leg and rewire the whole setup.
