Replacing a post under beam

We had to remove a water damaged 6x6 post that was a support under a 4x10 beam. This post was very easy to replace due to the fact that it was in the middle of two other posts that carried the full load of the roof weight. In the event that you need a load bearing post replaced the level of difficulty goes up quickly. If the damaged post is supporting a load such as a balcony or patio cover we then need to build a temporary support structure (aka dead man) that's capable of holding the load safely while the old post is removed and a pre-painted new post is installed. This is a rather common repair once the load calculations are done and the temp support structure is built. The more difficult scenario is when the support beam is compromised. Then a whole system of temp supports is needed. If you have a complicated post or beam repair give us a call today!
