Second story balcony deck

This balcony deck was a home owner build. Don't get me wrong some homeowners can pull off some complicated DIY projects. Sometimes I'm impressed. Sometimes, not so much! As was the case with this balcony deck. It was down right unsafe! The handrail was not to code. The decking was 3/4" siding! Yikes! That means if you didn't fall off the deck because the handrail was unsafe you might just as well fall through the deck. We scrapped it and basically started over. The only salvageable lumber were the post & beam and some of the joists. Other than that we had to redesign the handrail completely, redo the joists and install proper decking.
